Write a letter to the cruise line President and explain all of the details and include the death certificate and funeral program. Don’t be belligerent in the letter, simply explain the situation and explain why you think they should get a credit for another cruise. The letter should go to the headquarters office which you can find on the cruise line’s web site.
There is no guarantee that they will give them a second opportunity but a letter to headquarters will allow people other than those simply making reservations to know of and consider the situation. These will be people at a higher level. They may decide to give another cruise, or to give a substantial credit on a future cruise.
I had a similar situation many years ago, only it was my wife who died.
Unless your niece had cruise cancellation insurance, she’s probably out of luck. You never know what might come up that would necessitate changing plans, so when there’s a big investment like this, you definitely should have insurance.
Princess has no obligation to provide another cruise, free of charge, since it was your niece who decided not to take the trip. Unfortunately, this is an expensive lesson for her.
